Spring brake cylinder
Spring brake chambers combine service braking with a powerful mechanical parking brake. They provide reliable stopping and holding force — even when air pressure is lost.
A spring brake chamber (or combination brake cylinder) integrates two essential braking functions into one unit: the service brake, powered by air pressure, and a spring-actuated emergency/parking brake that activates when pressure is lost.
When parked, the powerful internal spring expands and applies force to keep the brakes engaged — ensuring the vehicle stays stationary, even if there’s no air in the system. When the vehicle is started, air pressure compresses the spring and re-enables normal service brake operation.
These chambers come in various configurations (e.g., T16/T24, T30/30), with stroke options, threaded push rods, clevis fittings, and corrosion-resistant housings. Wear or seal failure can lead to dragging brakes, insufficient braking force, or air leaks — all requiring immediate replacement.
Key features and uses:
-
Dual-chamber system: service and emergency/parking brake
-
Ensures brake activation during air pressure failure
-
Available with vent ports, dust caps, and adjustable fittings
-
Withstands heat, vibration, pressure, and environmental stress
-
Designed for trucks, trailers, buses, and heavy-duty vehicles
