Brake calipers

The brake caliper houses the brake pads and squeezes them onto the rotor when the brake is applied. This clamping action generates friction, slowing the wheel and allowing the vehicle to stop smoothly and safely.

Depending on the system, calipers may be hydraulically or pneumatically actuated. They typically include a cast iron or aluminum body, pistons, seals, slide pins, and in some cases, integrated automatic adjustment mechanisms that compensate for pad wear.

Malfunctioning calipers can cause uneven braking, pad drag, overheating, or longer stopping distances. Worn or seized calipers should be replaced or rebuilt promptly to maintain braking performance.
