Flywheels
The flywheel plays a key role in the drivetrain. It stores rotational energy, smooths engine operation, and provides a stable interface for clutch engagement.
Mounted to the crankshaft, the flywheel rotates with the engine and serves several functions. It balances the engine’s pulses, supports consistent rotation, and provides the friction surface for the clutch disc. During gear changes or clutch disengagement, the flywheel ensures smooth transition between the engine and the transmission.
There are two main types: solid (single-mass) flywheels and dual-mass flywheels (DMF). Dual-mass versions include a built-in damping system that absorbs vibrations and shocks, improving driving comfort and protecting the gearbox.
A worn or damaged flywheel can cause juddering, poor shifting, or vibrations — and should be replaced to avoid serious transmission damage.
Typical features and uses:
-
Available in single-mass or dual-mass versions
-
Precisely aligned with the crankshaft and clutch system
-
Damps vibrations at low RPM or heavy load
-
Heat-resistant friction surface
-
Compatible with clutch kits and starter rings
