Visco couplings
The viscous fan clutch automatically engages or disengages the engine cooling fan based on temperature. A smart solution for dynamic and efficient thermal control.
A viscous fan clutch connects the engine to the cooling fan through a fluid-based mechanism. As engine temperature rises, the silicone fluid inside the clutch thickens, creating more drag and causing the fan to spin faster. When the temperature drops, the fluid becomes less viscous, reducing fan speed or disengaging it entirely.
This self-regulating system provides cooling only when needed, helping save fuel, reduce noise, and prevent overcooling. It ensures that the engine operates within its ideal temperature range, especially during heavy loads or idling conditions.
A failing fan clutch may cause overheating if it doesn't engage, or excess noise and power loss if it stays engaged constantly. Common issues include oil leakage or internal wear of the silicone fluid.
