Multi-rope

Also known as a multi-rib or poly-V belt, the serpentine belt is designed to efficiently power several engine components at once. Its grooved structure provides excellent grip and flexibility while saving space compared to using multiple individual belts.

This belt is responsible for driving critical systems such as the alternator, A/C compressor, water pump, power steering pump, and sometimes the radiator fan. A properly functioning serpentine belt operates quietly and smoothly without slipping.

Over time, exposure to heat, moisture, and mechanical load can lead to wear. Signs of a failing belt include squealing noises, visible cracks or fraying, and reduced tension. A broken serpentine belt can cause sudden failure of multiple engine systems — including overheating or loss of electrical power.
