Release bearing
The clutch release bearing enables smooth disengagement between the clutch pedal and the pressure plate. It’s a critical part of the drivetrain that ensures noise-free and responsive shifting.
The release bearing transmits the force from the clutch pedal (via hydraulic or pneumatic actuation) to the pressure plate. When engaged, it pushes the diaphragm spring, releasing the clutch disc and interrupting power flow to the gearbox — allowing for smooth, safe gear changes.
A worn bearing can squeak, grind, or even seize, resulting in jerky shifting, vibrations, or damage to the pressure plate or transmission. That’s why it’s standard practice to replace the release bearing when installing a new clutch.
