Cylinder head
The cylinder head seals the combustion chamber and plays a vital role in engine operation. It houses valves, injectors, rockers, and supports precise compression and combustion.
The cylinder head is mounted on top of the engine block and forms the upper section of the combustion chamber. It directs air and exhaust flow, holds key components like intake and exhaust valves, valve guides, injectors, spark plugs (in petrol engines), and often contains part of the camshaft system.
This part is constantly exposed to extreme heat, high pressure, and mechanical stress. It must maintain dimensional stability and integrity to ensure proper gas exchange, efficient combustion, and long-term engine health. Together with the head gasket, the cylinder head ensures a tight, leak-free seal over the combustion chambers.
Common cylinder head issues include cracking, warping, and internal coolant or oil leaks. Symptoms such as loss of coolant, white smoke, power reduction, or poor compression often point to problems with the head or gasket.
