Abs sensors and pulse rings
ABS sensors and tone rings are essential for modern brake control systems. They monitor wheel speed in real time and enable safe, controlled braking under all conditions.
The ABS sensor detects the rotational speed of each wheel and sends this data to the ABS control unit. When it senses that a wheel is about to lock up, the system adjusts brake pressure to prevent skidding — maintaining stability and steering control, especially on slippery roads.
The tone ring (or reluctor ring) rotates with the axle or hub. Its tooth pattern creates pulses as it passes the sensor, which reads them using either magnetic or inductive technology. These pulses are converted into signals that the ABS system uses to manage brake force.
Precise alignment and signal quality are critical. Dirt, corrosion, wear, or physical damage to either the sensor or the ring can cause ABS warning lights, uneven braking, or full system failure. Replacing damaged components is vital for safety.
