EGR systems play a key role in reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in diesel engines — improving environmental compliance without sacrificing engine performance.
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation system redirects a portion of the engine’s exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. Mixing exhaust with fresh air lowers combustion temperatures, which significantly reduces the formation of NOx — one of the most harmful pollutants produced by diesel engines.
For modern trucks, a properly functioning EGR system is vital for meeting Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions standards. Key components include the EGR valve, cooler, sensors, and electronic or vacuum controls. Failure or clogging of the EGR system can result in power loss, increased fuel consumption, fault codes, or the engine going into limp mode.
Due to exposure to soot, heat, and pressure, EGR systems require regular maintenance and, when needed, timely replacement to ensure proper engine operation and emissions control.
